Traveling With Hidden Disabilities
Traveling with dementia, autism or a psychiatric condition?
Maximize the chances of an incident-free journey by taking preventive action.
With JET COMPANION you can organize professional one-to-one support and have precautionary measures in place before the airline asks for it.
Each year our team contributes to the safe travel of many passengers with Alzheimer’s Disease, Parkinson’s, Autism or a broad range of mental health conditions and addictions.
Severe mental health conditions may require transport on a stretcher, under full sedation and monitoring.
A few things that we do:
- Dispatch nurses that are experienced in caring for travelers with specific conditions.
- Allow extra time to build up rapport prior before going to the airport and during travel.
- Use sensory rooms and Sunflower lanyards at participating airports.
- Advocate for our patients when interacting with third party service providers
- Create a safe and pleasant travel experience by focusing on comfort and deescalation.
- Use medication as scheduled and as needed.
